Studio 3 Trainers: Managing Signs of Distress
At PBS Collective, we’re proud to be accredited Studio 3 Trainers delivering the Managing Signs of Distress program. Studio 3’s internationally recognised Low Arousal approach helps us understand and respond to distress with less confrontation, more connection, and a focus on safety, dignity and wellbeing.
Managing Signs of Distress combines theory, reflection and hands-on skills practice. Participants learn to:
- Recognise early signs of distress with confidence
- Understand why distress happens, including stress, trauma and unmet needs
- Use practical de-escalation strategies grounded in the Low Arousal approach
- Prevent situations from escalating
- Reflect on and learn from crisis events, and support staff afterwards
- Build a shared, values-led approach across the whole team
The program fits closely with the CARE Framework at the heart of our Person-Centred Relational Support Framework Both put understanding, connection and dignity at the centre of every response, and both aim to reduce the use of restrictive practices.
